Best San Francisco Vacations: Napa Wineries

By Philip Vonwrede

Napa Valley is most popularly known as a wine region. Wine production started in 1800s by John Patchett and later on collaborated with Charles Krug somewhere in the proximity of what we call Fuller park nowadays. Wineries in Napa are normally found at the borders outside the city. Although it may face the problem of not being accessible, locals, wine makers and others have taken the initiative to bring the wine where most people can try it: in the city. Now, there are over 20 tasting rooms and wine bars that you can check out. However, wine isn't produced as fast as some other wine regions do to accommodate a large number of people each and every year. Times are changing, though. There are already several tasting rooms being developed in the city to service all the wine aficionados there.

I really like Stags' leap winery. In 1893, Stag's Leap Winery started wine making on a massive 249 acre of land. It is presently maintained by Foster's group and in 2005, Stag's Leap Winery experienced a major transformation with hiring Robert Brittan. Their trademark wine variety is the Petit Syrah.

I have many memoreies at Darioush Winery. The Bordeaux styled wines produced by Darioush makes the winery quite among Napa wineries, which has been implementing the old labor- intensive production techniques, management of micro-vineyard and embracement of technology in wine crafting. The winery boasts of utmost quality and precision wines under Steve Devitt, a winemaker. Darioush Khaledi directs activities at the winery. The visitor center at Darioush Winery offers a top class facility where visitors enjoy an awesome one-on-one wine tasting experience.

Domaine Carneros Winery spares no expense. Situated at Carneros, Domaine Carneros Winery exudes superiority and conventional wine-making methods in the state of California. Built from the ground up by Champagne Taittinger in 1987, the winery has been touted as the pioneer in the whole region as well as being one of the most excellent panoramic views. The promenade area together with the chateau that you could find at the front is open for anyone and everyone daily, from 10 am to 6pm. It offers services such as wine tastings and tours of the estate.

Artesa Vineyards & Winery is the best winery to kiss. Simply known as the Carneros jewel, Artesa Vineyards & Winery is set at the hilltop which gives Napa Valley its panoramic views. With its own, great estate vineyards, you will know exactly why Artesa Vineyards & Winery is regarded as jewel in this area. Perhaps other Napa wineries do not capture the multi faceted, beautiful appearance in a dramatic way as Artesa Vineyards & Winery does.

As a Cab wine lover, I always look forward to my Robert Sinskey Winery visits. Managed by Robert Sinskey, Robert Sinskey winery boasts a variety of signature blends in their arsenal: the Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, together with commander Zinskey and Merlot. This wine estate produces top notch excellence and has been received well by wine lovers all around the country.
