Renting Cars Advice

By Poppy Hill

The great thing about renting a car or van on your family trip is that you are able to drive around the city you are staying in and manage to get a feel for the place. Unlike if you decide to take a guided tour which only shows you the main attractions. Driving your rental car through the alleyways of your holiday town will give you a true feeling of the how the city works.

Ask your relatives if they have booked with a car hire company in the resort or town that you are going to and if they have had a good experience with them. This is always a good tip before booking to check out the reviews on the car hire firm you are about to book and collect your car from.

Select a good insurance policy when renting a car. This will save you money in the long run in case you are involved in an accident and wish to claim back any damage that you have been charged for such as scratches or tyre damage.

When you select a car to book make sure you have booked a car which has enough space for all your luggage and people which are travelling with you. Large groups are often best to rent a station wagon or people carrier type of van as this can accommodate most parties.

Book your car in advance of your vacation as this will give you piece of mind on arriving at the airport as sometimes the cars are sold out due to busy bank holidays or Christmas period. Some renters often wait until the last minute before booking to try and find a good deal but this can backfire and find themselves without a car due to sell outs.

Learning some basic rules about driving in your new country will help you understand their ways as driving there will be a lot different than driving in your own country. In the UK drivers drive on the left unlike most of Europe and the world. Relax and enjoy your rental car and ask questions upon arrival if you are still not sure what some of the rules are in Wales.
