Favorite Romantic Vacations: Paso Robles Wineries

By Chris Werner

Some vacations that mix the Hearst Castle and a small winery town with over 200 wineries is the perfect weekend vacation. Paso Robles has over 200 wineries and this is my favorite winery choices.

Overlooking the pacific ocean, Adelaida sits on sloping terrains and chalk rock limestones. With this, Adelaida Cellars Inc. has very well managed its unique location and climate to producing the best of the best in California. With over 145 acres of farmlands, Adelaida has employed the use of ecological and organic method to farming and wine making. In 2010, it was given an awards for its dedication to promoting sustainable practices.

Leading the pack is the Hoffman Mountain Ranch. Among the wineries in Paso Robles, this one has specialized in Burgundian varieties. Starting their operations in 1964, it uses its own locally grown wine grapes in producing the best Pinot Noir in the area. Even though their supply is not that much compared to the others, each sip is packed full of smooth and vibrant flavors.

Names after Elizabeth Van Steenwyk's grandmother, Anna's Estate Vineyard produces a unique spin on their wine varietal that have people coming back for more. It depends on clone and rootstock to develop this distinct flavor in their wines. Each and every wine blend, most especially their Syrah, possess this earthy flavor tinged with milk chocolate taste. Due to this, Anna's Estate Vineyard has experienced success in tasting rooms.

Michael's Estate Vineyard is an excellent winemaker that exploits all the benefits of dry farming. With their vast dry farm lands, their wines hold numerous flavors packed in one drop of wine. They offer a bunch of wine varietals that are all specially made, but their Zinfadels take the cake. Everyone truly has high praises for it.

Famous for their Cabernet Sauvignon, you may never guess that Viking Estate Vineyard just began in 2007. The terrain where it is on may be challenging to planting wine grapes. To compensate for it, they concentrated on certain varieties of wine such as Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Syrah as well as Cabernet Sauvignon. By doing this, their wines are of high-standard and caused people to flock to their estate to taste it.

Specializing in single-grape wine varietals, Bobcat Crossing Estate Vineyard is worth a visit. They are distinguished for their refined and smooth wines, most especially Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao and Souzoa, and Muscat Blanc. It is amazing how their use of sandy loam soil has caused abundant growth of Portuguese crops. This method has injected a fruity and acidic flavor to their wines, most especially Touriga Nacional, that pegged them as one of the most unique wineries in the area. Propelled by Don Van Steenwyk, Bobcat Crossing Estate Vineyard is now highly regarded in the wine industry.
